NORMAN ELBERFELD, RICHMOND'S CRACK THIRD BASEMAN

Richmond, Va., Sept. 9.-Norman Elberfeld, the crack third baseman of the Richmond Club, has been sold to Philadelphia, and will join the Quaker City team on the 20th, the day after the Atlantic League season ends.

Manager Hanlon has had his eye on Elberfeld for some time, and has been negotiating with the Richmond people for his purchase, but it seems that Philadelphia has slipped in and carried oft the prize. Manager Jake Wells, of Richmond, who is an exceedingly good judge, has a very high opinion of Elberfeld. In a recent letter to the sporting editor of the Herald, he said:

"Elberfeld is certainly a coming ball player. I don't think I have ever seen a more promising youngster. He has no real weakness, but, of course, has something to learn."
